September 2008 Archives

"Black" is one of those movies you yearn to see again and again and you can never ever quite get the story out of your head.  The movie is a love story of self-discovery and education for a Deaf and Blind woman who does not speak.  She lives in an internal darkness.  She wants a way out into the light of the world.  The box for the special edition of the DVD is pocked with Braille dots you can feel with your fingertips, thus creating a temptation, and an expectation for the drama of learning to come:

Commenting on blogs is no longer open season for spewing anonymous bile and hatred.  The bad old days of anonymous Wild West commenting is dead.

WordPunk requires all commenters be registered and we use OpenID to verify your identity.  We just published a Registration Page that teaches you how to set up and use OpenID so you can comment.

If you were using the "Movable Type" option to login here to comment, we now need you to use OpenID instead.

The cool thing about OpenID is you may already have an account, but you don't realize it yet.  If you need help, please use the Registration Page to contact us.

The iPhone 3G Dictionaries Review

We celebrate writing on this WordPunk blog -- and we do love our new iPhone 3G -- even though the White Apple of Death drives us nuts daily.  One of the invaluable assets for the iPhone 3G is the Apps Store.  I spent $100.00USD to buy several dictionaries for use on my iPhone 3G.  In this review, I will look up one of my favorite words -- "semiotic" -- and one of my favorite people -- "Clinton" -- to see what results are returned.  You do not need an internet connection to use any of these dictionaries.  All definitions are installed on your iPhone 3G.

Surviving Serial Liars

I'm sure someone has told you a lie to protect your feelings or to set you up for deception.  We all lie.  Some lies are grander than others.  A lie begs no excuse and provides no reason.

Never to the Bitter End

When I was younger, if I started a project -- any project -- I finished it all costs to the bitter end.

Keesha was voted out of the Big Brother 10 house and -- in the spirit of poopy panties -- we welcome her back into the land of the losers.

With Sarah Palin now on the Republican ticket -- she is being mocked for her duplicity and for her rather fascist want to create one set of rules for the rest of us and another set of rules by which only she and her family are allowed to abide.  Some on the internets are satirically calling her "Hitler in High Heels" and "Dan Quayle with a Ponytail" and I find that comedic flaying fascinating on many levels as the parody image below suggests...

Doing the Wrong Right Thing

Science has proven when an animal is trapped by fire it will always try to flee the flames, even if that means leaping off a ledge or jumping into unknown waters and into death.  We saw evidence of that self-salvation in the brutality of the World Trade Center as people willingly leapt from windows one hundred storeys above the ground -- some even joined hands in the free-fall -- just to escape the fireball burning their bodies.
